SMEs in Queensland are being invited to take part in the Queensland Business Energy Saving and Transformation Program (QBEST) where they can learn how improve their energy efficiencies and reduce their carbon footprint.
First launched in 2023, QBEST aims to provide cost savings and environmental benefits by offering tools and resources to enhance operational efficiencies, as well as grants and rebates to help finance new equipment.
Businesses joining the program will get to partner with Efficient Energy Group, which will provide businesses with tailored energy solutions, including LED lighting upgrades for warehouses and offices, and state-of-the-art refrigeration systems. Altogether these installations have been designed not only to reduce energy consumption but also to enhance operational efficiencies and overall business performance.
Participants in the QBEST program will also receive benefits and resources that include professional energy audits to assess current energy usage and identify areas for improvement: financial incentives that include grants, QBEST rebates up to $12,500, and low-interest loans to help offset the costs of implementing energy-efficient technologies and practices, with the rebates amounting to 50 per cent of the purchase and installation costs of eligible equipment; expert advice and support in deploying energy-saving strategies; training sessions and workshops on best practices for energy management; and additional tools and resources that will help businesses monitor their energy usage and report on their progress.
To quality for the QBEST program, a business must be registered and operating in Queensland and must demonstrate a commitment to improved energy efficiency. Participants also must meet specific energy consumption thresholds and must spend a minimum of $8,000 on the purchase and installation of equipment.
The QBEST program is scheduled to run through June 2025 and applications for the QBEST Program are accepted on a rolling basis. However, businesses are encouraged to apply early to take full advantage of the program’s resources and funding. At the same time, the program’s timeline allows businesses that participate to gradually adopt and integrate environmentally-friendly practices into their operations. The program’s duration also offers plenty of time for businesses to see measurable results and benefits.
